Presenting Business Plans: Why People Feel Nervous and What You Can Do About It

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Robert_Warlow]Robert Warlow If you are looking for finance to either start up a business or expand your existing one you have to accept that if you want the Bank to say yes to your superb business idea, you are going to have to spend time preparing for the interview. The chat with the Manager is your only chance to really sell yourself and your idea. It’s rare that you’ll get a second chance with the same Manager or Bank. So don’t deny yourself the opportunity. But many people have a problem in presenting themselves in front of strangers! So let’s consider why people find the idea of selling themselves and their business a daunting task. Lack of Confidence Some people just don’t feel confident when talking in a public situation. You may not consider communicating on a one-to-one basis as talking in public, but it is. Outside of your own “self-talk” (conversations you have in your mind with yourself) and within your own home, all conversations are essentially public speeches. Lack of Preparation If you haven’t prepared properly then this will show through in any stressful situation. Lack of preparation includes not knowing the ins-and-outs of your business idea or Business Plan and not anticipating the type of questions you’ll be asked during the interview. It’s comparable to going into an examination and knowing deep down that you haven’t put the effort in - do you remember that feeling? Poor Communication Skills Some people feel that they can never communicate their ideas in a clear and coherent manner; their thoughts are jumbled up and are not in any order; words and explanation of concepts come out in a muddle. As a result, their body language and voice begins to reflect the uneasiness, which leads to even more mental anguish. And so the cycle continues ever downward! Poor Self Image Some business people don’t see the interview as a meeting of equals in which both parties want a successful outcome. They see the Manager as some kind of ogre, someone, who given half the chance, will devour them up and cast them aside, just for his own evil pleasure! This enduring image stays with them right up to the start of the interview, dominating their thoughts and making the whole process a complete disaster! Lack of Focus and Planning On the day of the interview, some try to do a thousand-and-one other things before going along to the Bank. What happens? They get stressed out because something has not gone to plan - the man who was to come to repair the washing machine didn’t turn up until an hour after the agreed time; they forgot that the car would need fuel on the way in and so this has added 10 minutes to the journey time; a friend turns up at the house and they don’t have the courage to tell her to go, so an hour later she’s still there! By the time they get to the Bank, their heart is beating faster than that of a marathon runner and their mind is a complete blank! They don’t see the day as having one job, that of seeing the Bank Manager, and so the day isn’t properly planned. All these unplanned diversions and delusions can take your mind off mentally preparing for the important task ahead. Do any of these situations sound familiar? What can you do to put yourself in a better frame of mind? Here are 3 suggestions out of my 9-step Interview Preparation Plan Have Belief in Your Future Success Before someone else can believe in you, you have to believe in yourself. You must absolutely have no doubt in your own mind that you will succeed in setting up your business or moving your current business forward. It’s not about what you believe you are now but what you believe you can be in the future. You may have little in the way of money or assets now but you have to believe that in the future you will have all these things (if this is how you define your idea of success). You have to be 100% sure that you are going to be one of the few people who will make a success of their life. You have to demonstrate an “I-will-get-to-the-top” attitude. If you don’t believe you can climb to the top of the mountain then it’s certain you won’t! People, and this will include your Bank Manager, follow the person who believes what he is saying. Know Your Business Plan Inside Out If you have organised yourself properly, the Manager will have spent time going through your Business Plan before the interview. After reviewing your Plan he will probably have a list of questions to clarify the areas he’s not sure of, or questions just to prompt you to give him a better understanding of certain parts of your business. To deal with these questions confidently and competently you have to know your Plan inside out. In view of the time constraints people are under these days, it’s possible that the Manager may only have skimmed through your Plan (what! After all your work? After all those hours? Yep, it’s a fact of life I’m afraid!). The answers to his queries of course may actually be contained in the Plan. If this does happen, don’t lose your cool or answer with an “attitude”. Use this as an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of your Plan. Think how professional and organised you’ll look when you tell him to turn to page 10 and hell find the answer to his question right there! If nothing else, it will make feel humble! Knowing your Plan means that at least during the interview you’re not going to contradict what you included in it. You have to be consistent. If you say something which doesn’t tally with what you stated on paper, what do you think will go through the Manager’s mind? “Does this person know what he’s doing? They obviously don’t have a clear direction or focus for the business if they keep changing their mind.” Knowing your Plan will demonstrate that you are meticulous, organised and consistent, the type of person a Banker really likes! Put Yourself in the Manager’s Shoes One effective way of preparing for the interview is to imagine you as the Manager. Imagine you are seeing yourself and your plan for the first time; pretend you know absolutely nothing about you or your business. What would you ask? What would you want to know? What is likely to confuse an “outsider” about your business? What questions would you ask to get a better understanding? What challenging questions would you ask? You have to get inside his mind so you can prepare well-researched and well-presented answers to his likely questions. It’s all back to being professional in your presentation, demonstrating that you know your business and that you are worthy of support. You won’t give this impression if you havent spend time thinking of possible questions you could be asked and preparing the answers in advance. Banker’s favourite questions are “What if……” ones: “What if your supplier fails you?” “What if the price of your raw materials goes up by 10%?” “What if you lose your number one customer?” “What if one of your critically important employees leaves?” Set some time aside when preparing for the interview to think like a Banker. What would you want to know if you were in his chair? The list of questions could be endless and there is no way you can pre-empt all of them but at least you will be prepared for the majority of them. These are just 3 of the steps you can take to prepare yourself for your interview. Choosing A Hair Design-Then Consider These Factors!

By Sarah H Any hairstyle or hair design should be carefully considered before you rush into going for it. Why? Because your hair is one of the first things people see and also because it can take months to grow back in the case or a bad hair cut or it could take a lot of time and money trying to repair your hair in the case of chemically styled or designed hair. There are many factors that you should take into consideration before making a decision, after all its your hair and more than likely you want to get the best out of it. After all, you wont rush out on a whim to get a tattoo design that you saw in a magazine two seconds ago! But before we delve into the world of hair design you should know this; hairdressing and hair styling are art forms, and it is usually approached as such. It may seem strange to think of hair as art, but hair design can be likened to the art of sculpting. Great men like Socrates and Leonardo Da Vinci saw sculpting as the purest art form, so much so that Da Vinci even exhumed corpses to understand the accuracy and precision of form, the result of which was his work The Vitruvian Man. But the significance here is that hair stylists approach hair designing in very much the same way a sculptor would approach a mound of clay. One of the most important factors to take into account when choosing a hair design or style is the shape of the persons face, simply because the hair frames the face and the shape of the persons face will determine what kind of cut, style or design will look the best. The bone structure of the face and shoulders should also be taken into consideration as a delicate bone structure framed by sharp cuts and straight edges may well make a person look like an experimental mannequin gone terribly wrong. Rather, studying the shape of the face, the bone structure of a persons features and even the persons shoulders will help you choose a hair design that will compliment your natural appearance as opposed to contrasting it. Speaking of natural appearances, there are two things that are significantly important when it comes to your hair style and general appearance and those are the cut and the color. Lets face it…literally, youre not a floating head, it comes attached to a body and believe it or not the right hair cut can actually enhance the appearance of the rest of your body by creating create a sense of balance between your head, face, and body. And if you are interested in coloring your hair, whether a mild enhancement of your natural color or a completely new color it is important to make it look natural. Before considering coloring as part of your hair design you should pay attention to your eye color and skin tone. Another important factor to consider when choosing a hair design is the functionality and appropriateness of the design for work, social occasions, daily time constraints and your basic everyday lifestyle. A hair design should be either a one-size-fit-all- type of design where it is appropriate for every occasion notwithstanding the addition of accessories like make-up and clothes, or the hair design should be versatile enough to style appropriately for various occasions. And of course, the most important factor that you should definitely take into account when choosing a new do, is well, you! Your new style or design should reflect and match your personality. Your hair should say something about who you are, and you certainly want your hair to make very positive statements! Ladies and Gentlemen: The Vending Machine

By Sunil Khemchandani The generation of today is very different than generations past. Times where Star Treks Replicator were light years away are now here in front of our very eyes, and technology is advancing at a very rapid rate. In the Star Trek series, a Replicator was a robot or mechanical device that could covert energy into particles or matter and do the same with small objects. What looked so complicated and surreal then has become everyday life for us now with many of our everyday demands being satisfied by vending machines. The robotic world we as human beings strongly rely upon is quickly and efficiently replacing human interaction and contact. Services are now solely dependent on the consumer, who wants products that are easily accessible with little to no hassle. Due to the demand of machines and the constant rush everyone is in, the vending business has started to reap the benefits, and has answered the desire of our new robotic world with a large variety of national brand name products in vending machines. A vending machine is defined as a machine that sells all types of refreshments and miscellaneous items in which you pay some change and choose which item you desire. Vending machines will eventually be able to take an order and payment from a customers cell phone and be able to create gourmet meals in minutes for its customers. Step back, George Jetson, your meal is about to be served up similar to the popular cartoons. Simply choose from a variety of cold sandwich and frozen foods and have a coffee latte made just for you with extra foam, all done without every have to speak to another person. Instead, a control panel on the vending machine lets you choose and pay without any human contact at all. Vending machines are the new wave of the future. The world of vending is extremely profitable because there is so much to sell with a high demand. You can sell virtually anything and everything bulk candy vending, candy bar vending, beverage and soda vending, the ever popular gumball vending machine, toiletries, DVD’s and music vendingthe list goes on and on. But how does someone, and enthusiastic entrepreneur, interested in purchasing or starting his/her own vending business get started? Todays society relies so much on machines and mechanical devices that vending businesses are booming with new and exciting opportunities. VendingMachine.bz will help you get to where you need to be to have a successful vending business with the right amount and types of vending machines. Discover The Relationship That Lies Hidden In Your Marriage

By Beth Young Putting aside the theories and legends of Columbus’ “discovery of America”, let’s use commonly cited information to compare with our modern day relationships. Christopher Columbus went in search of a westward route to Asia and discovered America. It was a difficult journey, probably a bit embarrassing that he missed his mark, and at the time, he didn’t realize the full magnitude of the amazing discovery he had made. The same is true of our marriage relationships. -A Difficult Journey My 12 year old, in a rare introspective moment, recently asked me, “Mom, what do you do if you get married and later your wife gets all weird and does bad things?” It was a wonderful opportunity for me to talk with him about the steps I took in deciding to marry his dad, and the importance of considering many different things when making important life decisions. I was also able to reinforce the importance of faith and prayer. It’s important that we each put some serious thought and prayer into deciding who we will spend the rest of our life with. Then when the tough times come…and we are all afflicted with tough times in our marriage, we can have the confidence, commitment and trust in our original decision, and spouse, that we work through the problems and don’t allow them to work us. When these rough times engulf our life, take time to reflect upon the many things that caused you to fall in love with your spouse. Look at the things you are doing as a couple that weaken and strengthen your relationship, then try to do more things to strengthen your relationship. Most relationships need just a few simple extra efforts to shore up the weak areas. Commit yourself to weekly dates nights, this will keep the communication lines open and the magic in your marriage. Take time to talk each day about successes, failures and things that are going on in your life, it’s so important to feel connected to each other. -Embarrassing Moments We can learn from Columbus’ efforts to make the best of his discovery and not go stomping back to Spain blaming his first mate for the wrong turn he made. We’ve all had times where our spouse did or said something that embarrassed us. We can choose to be a Columbus and embrace the moment. Or go stomping back to Spain and not allow ourselves to grow from the experience. Of course, it’s important to discuss privately how that situation made us uncomfortable. Discuss how it made you feel and ways it could be handled differently in the future. But in the moment, have a sense of humor and see what you can do to grow from the experience. Having a poised or humorous response to an embarrassing situation helps diffuse the discomfort for everyone and shows what champion discoverers are made of! -The Grand Discovery As you remain committed to your spouse, even when the journey takes unexpected turns, you will make a grand discovery. It doesn’t really matter where we end up on our journey, it’s what we allow our self to discover along the way that fills our life with joy and not fear. Then we will be able to find and enjoy all the hidden treasures in our marriage relationship. Allow your journey in life to be a grand discovery so that you will be able to see the many hidden treasures you have in your spouse. Fly-out Fishing in Alaska

By Bryn Hiner We began our July fishing adventures on a DeHavilland Beaver float plane with pilot and 4 passengers plus our gear for a day fishing at Big River Lakes. Light layers and neoprene chest waders were all the gear that was needed. We left Lake Hood in Anchorage about 9 a.m. heading across Cook Inlet to Lake Clark National Park west of Redoubt Bay and arrived at our destination around 10:30 a.m. The flight was easy and enjoyable with sunny skies, taking in the scenery of the Aleutian Range as we flew closer. We arrived and transferred our gear to a flat bottom aluminum boat and the pilot/guide took us across the lake to fish on the west shore beside the stream. The planes are parked on muskeg, much too soggy for fishing so the pilots do double duty and run the boats as well. Big River Lakes is a series of interconnected lakes that are a popular fly-out fishing spot. There were at least 3 other airplanes there the day we went out. A nearby lodge is well suited for bear viewing and we shared the lake with many other boats. Soon after we arrived a 400 pound black bear come in to the stream feeding from the lake and he was there maybe 5 minutes when he suddenly took off when a 3-4 year old, 800-pound boar brown bear showed up. The brown bear fished for about 30-40 minutes while we stayed on shore well away from him. Though the bear was calm and showed no aggression to us, everyone stayed on the boats and gave him plenty of respect allowing him access to his fishing hole. He wandered off down the bank of the lake and 30-40 minutes later a sow with 3 cubs showed up. The sow was teaching the cubs how to fish, but the cubs were more interested in simply playing in the lake and checking out the fishermen. The sow paid no attention to the humans gathered and seemed to have no interest in our presence. After they ate their fill, they proceeded down the bank on the south side of the lake, leaving the peaceful lakes once more to the fishermen. As she disappeared, the male brown bear began to swim across the lake from the north bank to the south, a distance of about 500 yards. As he got to the south shore and went into the woods, there was a loud ruckus and we assumed the sow had a confrontation with the male who was chased off, though he was nearly 300 pounds more than the sow. Shortly the male emerged from the south shore and swam back toward the north shore. Unconcerned about the antics of the local bear population, we continue our quest for the Red Salmon we had come to fish. We stayed on the lakes about 5 hours and everyone caught their limit, catching and releasing fish until we were ready to head back to Anchorage. With no rain, mild temperatures, and no mosquitoes, we had a wonderful day fishing. CLA - “Wow Give Me Some of That!”

By Steve Adair Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is quite possibly the supplement of choice when looking for that weight-loss miracle pill. One group of overweight women lost 9% body fat in one year’s time even though they didn’t change their lifestyle or eating habits in any way. This is the first time CLA has been researched for it’s effects on body composition an the results are clearly remarkable. Never heard of CLA? CLA is a naturally occurring fatty acid found in meat and dairy products. It is a popular dietary supplement benefiting people who want to lose fat, maintain weight loss, lower blood pressure, boost their immune system, retain lean muscle mass, and control type 2 diabetes - the type of diabetes that is often associated with obesity. CLA comes in different concentrations. Products containing 80% CLA are recommended to get maximum weight-loss results. CLA has been shown to prevent heart disease and several types of cancer. It also appears to enhance the immune system. One study involving 180 overweight men and women, all between 25 and 30 BMI (body mass index). A BMI — an indicator of body fat — over 25 has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease and other medical problems, such as diabetes. The volunteers were mostly female — 149 women and 31 men. Volunteers were assigned to three groups. The two groups taking CLA got either the typical off-the-shelf pills (4.5 grams of 80% CLA) daily or the syrup formulation (3.6 grams of 76% CLA disguised in a capsule) daily. The third group took a placebo capsule filled with olive oil daily. Participants were not required to change their diet or exercise habits. However, a nurse did give dietary and exercise advice upon request. Daily calorie intake was similar among the three groups; all volunteers reduced their calorie intake a little during the study. All got about the same amount of exercise. This strongly suggests that the observed effects of CLA on body composition were independent of diet. The decreased calorie intake may be partly due to the supplements and/or a reduced appetite. Also, because volunteers kept a food diary, they learned to cut food intake. Several times during the 12-month study period, the study group came to a clinic to have their weight, BMI, and blood checked. They also completed questionnaires on their diet and exercise in the previous two weeks. At the end of one year: Both CLA groups lost weight — about 4 pounds; the placebo group stayed the same. The CLA syrup group had a 9% body fat loss; the CLA pill group had 7% loss; the placebo group had no body fat loss. Both CLA groups had similar improvements in muscle mass. Regarding other risk factors: The CLA pill group had slightly higher LDL bad cholesterol. The CLA syrup group had slightly lower HDL good cholesterol. Both CLA groups had higher lipoprotein levels, a marker of inflammation and heart disease. Both CLA groups had higher levels of leptin, a hormone thought to be a heart disease marker. Both CLA groups had higher white blood cell counts, which could trigger damaging artery inflammation. The CLA groups had only modest changes in blood sugar levels, a marker for diabetes. The results of this study corroborate and expand on the findings of the previous short-term studies. Results show that the effect is greatest in those with highest body mass index, especially women with a 25 to 30 BMI. As far as the heart disease risk factors, the variations seen in the CLA groups are within normal physiological range. Increased white blood cells may reflect the heightened immune response that other studies have shown. In studies in Holland, CLA has been shown to prevent some viral infections. The mechanism(s) by which CLA decreases body fat mass and increases lean muscle mass is not completely understood. CLA is known to accumulate in tissues of animals and humans where it is readily metabolized. CLA may trigger fat cell death, shrink fat cells, or it may speed up metabolism to promote weight loss. Before Falling Truly and Madly in Love Ask Each Other 10 Pertinent Questions

By Michaela Scherr Falling in loveaaahh what a wonderful experience the first flushes of love are. The heart starts pounding, our temperature rises, and the butterflies begin fluttering whenever the girl/boy of our dreams enters the room. The world looks sowellrosy. Not only that, life suddenly becomes much more exciting. From my own experiences the heady excitement of first love really did my head in for some reason commonsense flew out the windowwell in the short term anyway. I started accepting things that I normally wouldnt, pulled away from my old friends, and started to lose a part of myself to accommodate the other person. I followed my heart when on reflection I couldve saved myself quite a bit of stress had I known a few more things about sharing my life with someone. I never really asked the important questions such as who would be the major breadwinner, compared our values or really planned for the future. I simply followed my heart and went with the flow in blissful abandonment. What do you really know about your future life long mate? Do you know what their favourite piece of music, colour, outfit, book, holiday destination is? What about their likes and dislikes? Do you know what their level of patience and understanding is, are they aware of yours? Are they flexible or inflexible thinkers and do you recognise whether you are or not? Ive listed 10 basic points to ask each other before you reach loves point of no return. You could treat this as a date, and also as an opportunity to really get to know each other on a deeper level. Above all be tactfully truthful, treat what the other has to say with respect, and never assume the other knows what youre thinking. If this sounds a bit clinical, consider it as a blueprint of your future lives together. Ever heard the comments I wish Id known what I was getting myself into. Or I wish I knew then, what I know now. Or I just cant understand her/him. Here are the points: 1. Ask each other what your values are on a scale of 1 10. 2. Ask what you really do not value on scale of 1 10. 3. Do you both want children? If only one wants children, is there an alternative and is this issue negotiable? 4. Who will be the breadwinner after the baby is born? Its not necessarily dad anymore. Are you both okay with who will be the major breadwinner? 5. Assuming you both were employed prior to children, ask yourselves once you become a parent how long will it be before you return to paid employment. I make this point because from experience that whilst the majority of couples Ive met are ok with the traditional scenario of the wife remaining at home with the children, some men have resented this. 6. What do you expect from each other in sickness and in health? Ask each other what you expect from them; in return let your partner know what you will personally bring into the relationship and what you will continue to bring to the relationship. 7. What will you forgive/not forgive of each others behaviours, for example, infidelity or lying? 8. Do you have a hobby you could both share? List all the really wonderful things you could do together. 9. Will there be occasions when you want to do things alone? For example, boys/girls night outs, fishing trip with the boys/girls etc. Is this acceptable to you? 10. Is there anything that annoys you about your partner already? Are you willing to accept annoyances? Secretly thinking that your partner will come around to your way of thinking sooner or later could possibly be setting yourself up for disappointment. Theres also the risk of blame and anger if youre unable to change something you assumed you could. Accept that nothing in life is perfect life could be said to be is perfectly imperfect.
